2010 can bite me.

I'm done with 2010.  There has been far too much death and sickness for my taste.  I'm thrilled that there wasn't MORE death, but that doesn't make the sickness any easier to tolerate.

For Miles 2010 has been just fine.  He's growing like crazy.  When the weather turned cold I bought him all new pants.  They had the adjustable waist so the 2T/24 month stuff was fine...fit great, a little long even.

Fast forward to today...he's wearing all 3T.  None of the pants I bought him in October fit.  They're all high-waters.  He's wearing them anyway...some days when I haven't felt like killing myself to do laundry.  But seriously...in 3 months he grew out of the size that was almost too long?!  Where is my baby?  :-)

He's 2.5 now and he's 32 lbs. and 36" tall.  As of late, he's been really exploring boundaries and tippy toeing over that line whenever possible.  He doesn't like the word "no" at all and has also been into fake crying to try to get what he wants.  The other day he threw himself in the floor crying and kicking his feet for some ice cream before bed.  Uhm no.  So we ignored and eventually he came around, but lordy he needs to move on outta this stage quick!

He absolutely LOVED Christmas this year.  It was incredible for me and Brad to live it through his eyes this year.  We had just as much fun as he did.  His Christmas Day went like this:

Wake up to see what Santa brought me.  Play with what Santa brought me.  Hey!  There's Grandma, Papa, and Shera!  What?  They brought MORE fun stuff to play with?!  It's a Christmas miracle!  Nap?  I don't need no stinkin' nap!  Let's go to Granny & Poppy's house and see Zac & Nikki and Nic & Evaline!  Why yes I would love to watch a movie on the way out there and not nap.  Oh my gosh!  Granny & Poppy got me a horsey?!  What's that you say?  There's jellybeans in the kitchen...and clementines?!  I don't mind if I do...thank you.  Play.  Play.  Play.  Play.  Play.  Oops!  Mommy bumped her head on Zac's iPad.  Play.  Play.  Play.  Play.  Ride home and eat clementines?  Sure!  Watch a movie on the way home again?  Sure!  What are they saying Mommy?  I don't understand.  Oh it's french.  Well, par le vous france to you too.  Whew...thanks for putting me in my jammies and my bed Mommy.  Night, night.

Happy new year everyone!  I hope 2011 brings us all health, wealth & happiness.  Love you all.

Say good-bye to Nuk!

Randomly last Sunday Brad "threw away" Miles' nuk.  He hasn't had it at all for the last 3 days.  Sleeping has been a chore.  He sleeps through the night, but has a rough time going to sleep without it.  There have been tears.  Yesterday on our way home from school he asked for it:

Miles:  Mommy, I want my nukkie.
Me:  You don't need it.  Big boys don't need nukkies, only babies.
Miles:  I don't want to be a big boy! (tears ensue...)

Put that last statement on repeat and you have our conversation on the ride home yesterday.  Poor little guy.  It's bittersweet getting rid of that thing.  It was like his last little bit of "baby" that he was hanging onto.  Now he's officially a "big boy".  Well, he's still in a crib...but that doesn't count.  :-)  I want my baby back.  Mr. Independent is going to give me gray hairs.

This morning he kicked me accidentally as I was putting his clothes on.  I made a pouty face and he said "Sawwy Mommy.  I you best buddy."  :-)  Seriously, melts my heart just remembering it from this morning.  How did I get such a sweet, precious child?  He's truly incredible and wonderful and just exactly what I dreamed of.  Mischievious, curious, loving, sensitive, and hilarious.  A mother could not ask for more.

"Good things come to those who wait..." does not just refer to Heinz ketchup.  :-)

Miles, what do you want Santa to bring you for Christmas?

A horse.

Yep.  He says he wants a horse.  Not only that he also made sure to tell me that we'd need corn to feed him because that's what they eat.

Miles is not getting a horse for Christmas...or ever really.  But man was it cute to hear him dream big!

Last night we had this conversation:

Scene:  Our basement after he ate dinner.  He's playing with his toys and stops for a minute and starts grunting.

Me:  Miles do you want to poop on the potty?
Miles: *grunt* No.
Me:  Well why not?  That's what big boys do.
Miles:  Because I said so.

Well, alrighty then.  Not much to say to that.  I was stunned at first, but then I laughed and began to wonder where in the hell he's heard that?  Uhm...that's probably me in response to his incessant "Why?" questions.  :-)

Oh and also, this morning he said "Mommy get me a see-eel (cereal) bar."  I said "Why don't you let Daddy get it for you?"  His response:  "Because I not Daddy's best buddy.  I Mommy's best buddy."  And my heart stopped and melted down into my abdomen.  :-)  I love that little sweetie-pie.

The Lizard.

The other night when I picked up Miles from school he showed me his green/blue lizard he got for going to the potty really well that day.  He was very excited about it as he "scared" me with it.

So we went home and we were getting ready to iChat with Poppy after Miles finished dinner.  He had Jello with dinner so he was only wearing his pull-up at the time.  I asked him where his lizard was so we could show it to Poppy.

He thought for a minute, I thought he was considering where it was, and pulled off his pull-up and stood there naked as a the day he was born.  I looked at Brad and we both just busted out laughing.  He, of course, did not mean it like we thought...he just coincidentally decided to take his pull-up off at the same time that I asked where the lizard was.  :-)  HILARIOUS!

Then he's iChatting with Poppy and Poppy told him it was a nice green lizard to which Miles replies "It's not green.  It's blue!"  Poppy of course said "It looks green to me, but if you say it's blue, then it's blue."  Then Miles shows him the lizard's head, which was blue.  :-)  The kid knows what he's talking about...even if we don't.

Trick-or-treat!

Well trick-or-treat was fun!  Both sets of grandparents were able to come and see him in his costume.  This year he was a cow.  He wanted Elmo, but thank GOD they were out of his size!  So I dodged that bullet.  Haha!

Brad brought home a piece of equipment to haul a trailer with hay on it.  So the kids in the neighborhood got to do a hayride while they trick-or-treated.  It was so much fun!  The other parents were so thankful that they didn’t have to walk all that way and so was I.  I will admit, I was leery of the dangers/potential law-suits that could come of it, but Brad did it anyway and I’m so glad he did!

Last year Miles wasn’t really into the trick-or-treat part.  He didn’t get it and he hadn’t really been introduced to candy much at that point.  This year was a different story entirely!  He was all about it!  We taught him to say “trick-or-treat” when he went to the door and he said “thank you” on his own several times.  He was running from house to house before the night was over.  It was adorable!

When his bag got too heavy he wouldn’t let me hold it (he knows I’m a candy hound!) so he put it around his neck instead.  Haha!  He’s a clever kid for sure.  When he got home, he went over by Poppy and sorted his candy in the floor...guess he hasn’t learned what a candy hound Poppy is or he wouldn’t have gone near him!  Next thing I know, he’s walking over to me at the dinner table carrying a sucker bouquet...all unwrapped…all being licked!  It was so cute!

Yesterday Brad and I started candy detox.  Grapes, oranges and apples it is!  Pictures to come...gotta edit them, but I’ve got a couple of other paid sessions to edit first.  So hopefully by the end of the week I’ll be able to get those up.

Experience with puke.

Miles hadn't been himself for a few days...fiesty and aggressive to other kiddos at school.  I know all parents think their kids are always well-behaved, but I'm not THAT parent.  I know he can be stinker, but he's more stubborn than misbehaving.

Anyway, it's a sure sign to us that he's getting sick when he starts acting like that.  So we knew it was coming, just didn't know when, where or what was coming.  So we go to bed and at 11pm I wake to him whining for me, which usually means he's lost his nuk and can't find it.  So I go in to replace the lost nuk.  By the time I get in there he's really upset, which was odd, but I thought he had a bad dream or something.  I'm feeling around in his bed for his nuk and I feel something gross...

Egg puke.

He had scrambled eggs for dinner and there must not have been time for them to digest...so I got to handle a fistful of scrambled eggs/stomach juice.  Ack!  So gross!

Poor little guy was terrified.  He hadn't puked since he was teeny...like not even rolling over teeny...so less than 6 months old.  So this was brand new for him and it scared him...he was shaking.  So I picked him up to take him to the bathtub to take his jammies off, which were egg puke covered.  I ended up with puke on my face, in my hair, on my hands and arms...every where.

Brought him to bed with us because he was so shaken up he wouldn't lay back down.  Laid there for about 15 minutes and yacked all over our bed too...poor little guy.  Got him all cleaned up, sheets changed and Brad and Miles "slept" in our bed and I moved out to the couch.

Conversation with Miles this past Saturday:
Miles:  I drank the puke, Mommy.
Me:  What?  We don't drink puke.
Miles:  I drank all of it.
Me:  Why did you do that?
Miles:  Cause I nasty.

:-)  I guess at least he knows it's not good to drink puke.  That's a step in the right direction I suppose.

"You Mama's boy!"

I remember hearing the term "mama's boy" with a negative connotation.  Now that I have my own, I don't see anything negative about it.  :-)

I always loved my parents VERY much.  But I had no idea how it felt to be loved that much...and it's incredible.  He loves his Mama.  That is one thing I know for sure.  These days it's "No!  Let Mommy do it!" and "Only me and Mommy."  I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me the happiest person on the planet.

He wants Mommy to sing him to sleep and tuck him in.  This week we've started reading a book before bed in the rocking chair.  He picks out his book and walks to the office where the rocking chair is and he climbs up into the chair and sits waiting for me to sit down.  :-)  It's precious.  I try to soak up moments like that because I know they won't last forever.

He got bit today 3 times.  Yes, the same kid bit him 3 times at school today.  Only the last one left a mark.  When Miles was the biter we were told that it was a "three strikes and you're out" policy.  Baby J (kid who bit) isn't going to be kicked out to my knowledge and honestly I don't think he should be.  Any kid can have a really bad day.  But Miles has bit twice...so if he bites again and they tell us we have to move on I'll be pissed and Baby J will also be leaving the daycare.

That said, we're looking into a new preschool in town.  Another Mom from school, who I trust very much, said it comes highly recommended by her sister-in-law.  They only take 12 kids at a time.  It's run by a husband and wife out of their house.  They teach sign language (already learning),  numbers, colors, letters, YOGA(!), and a lot of other stuff.  They sometimes walk to the library (two blocks away) to go to story time.  It sounds great!  So the other Mom and I are going to go check it out to see if we want to reserve a spot for next August.

So film at 11.  :-)  That's all for now...sorry it's so long!
